Margaret MARUANI

The sociologist Margaret Maruani is a Senior Researcher at the CNRS. In 1995, she created the “Labor market and gender” (MAGE) research network, the first research network on gender at the CNRS, which she directed until 2015. In 1999, she founded the journal Travail, genre et sociétés, which she has edited until the present.

She was awarded a Doctorate Honoris Causa  from l’Université libre de Bruxelles, and she taught for a number of years at Geneva University, where she created the masters program in gender studies. She was awarded the CNRS Silver Medal in 2014.

Since 2010, she has been associated with the Centre de recherche sur les liens sociaux, CERLIS-CNRS/Université Paris Descartes. She is a specialist on the subjects of work, employment, unemployment, and gender. Her publications include: Travail et genre dans le monde, l’état des savoirs, ed.  (Paris, La Découverte, 2013); Un siècle de travail des femmes en France, 1901-2011 (with Monique Meron, Paris, La Découverte, 2012); Travail et emploi des femmes (Paris, La Découverte (coll. “Repères”), 2000, 5th updated edition, 2017); Femmes, genre et sociétés. L'état des savoirs , ed., (Paris, La Découverte, 2005).
