Marie-Claire HOOCK-DEMARLE

Marie-Claire Hoock-Demarle is Professor Emeritus in Germanic Studies at l’université Paris 7-Denis Diderot. Her research explores comparative women’s history (France-Germany), the forms of feminine sociability in Europe, as well as networks of correspondence and memorial writing. She has published Transmettre les passés in collaboration with Claude Liauzu (Paris, Syllepse, 2001); La galaxie Diderot (Paris, Syllepse, 2005); Regards croisés sur l’Europe (Paris 7, 2006); and L’Europe des lettres. Réseaux épistolaires et construction de l’espace européen (Paris, Albin Michel, 2008). Her more recent research has focused on pacifism and its relations with feminism. She contributed to the volume Le premier féminisme allemand 1848-1933 edited by Patrick Farges and Anne-Marie Saint Gille (Villeneuve-d'Ascq, PU Septentrion, 2013), and also devoted a biographical study to Bertha von Suttner, amazone de la paix (Villeneuve-d’Ascq, PU Septentrion 2014). She co-edited, along with Georges Bensoussan and Guillaume Dreyfus, the issued entitled La littérature allemande et la Shoah, 1945-2014 for the Revue d’histoire de la Shoah 201 (2014).
